Burger and green peas pulao

Ingredients:
  • 2 cups rice (basmati)
  • 5 burgers, chicken or beef
  • 1 cup green peas
  • 1 onion, large-sized, finely cut
  • ½ onion, finely cut and fried till brown (for garnishing)
  • 2 tomatoes, medium-sized, finely cut
  • 2 green chillies, slit in half
  • ½ inch ginger, chopped fine
  • ½ cup coriander leaves, chopped fine
  • ½ tsp garam masala
  • 4 cloves
  • 2 cardamom, small
  • 5 black pepper corns
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 2 tbsp cooking oil
  • 4 ½ cups water (boiling)
  • salt, as per taste
Method:

Wash the rice and keep aside soaked. Fry the burgers on a non-stick pan on both the sides and cut into cubes and keep aside. Parboil the green peas and keep aside.

In a deep cooking pan, add oil, all the above whole spices, green chilies and onions. When the onions are transparent add the sliced tomatoes and sauté. When these are soft, add soaked rice and fry for 2 to 3 minutes.

Add parboiled peas, fried and cubed burgers, garam masala, coriander leaves and the boiling water. Let the water boil well among these ingredients. Mix this well and keep on very low flame. Cover the pan and let to cook for 15 to 20 minutes. Check if the rice is cooked (these should squash against the dish or between your fingers easily), garnish with fried and brown onions. Serve with Raita (quick recipe below).

Raita:

Beat 1 bowl of yogurt (curd) and add chopped onions (2), green chilly (2), tomatoes (2), salt, coriander leaves (2 tbsp). Mix well and serve with the above pulao.
